Overview

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in cooperation with the Namibian Communications Commission and the ICT Alliance of Namibia held an ICT Conference with the theme ICT for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development. The Conference, that was officially opened by the Rt. Hon. Nahas Angula, Prime Minister, took place at the Safari Hotel Conference Centre in Windhoek on 2 and 3 August 2007.

The Conference brought together approximately 200 stakeholders in ICT to assess and accelerate ICT development in Namibia. The Hon. Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Cassaburi, Minister of Communication of South Africa, also addressed the Conference and fully participated on both days.

The programme for the two days included the following:

  • Achieving Vision 2030 via knowledged-based and technology driven approaches;
  • Role of technology and innovation in advancing competitiveness and productivity in Namibia;
  • Government and ICT;
  • Legislative environment;
  • Communications;
  • Internet Services in Namibia; and
  • ICT Policies and Convergence.
Since ICTs are regarded as tools that can accelerate development and thus contribute to employment creation and poverty reduction, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting would like to thank all the particiapnts, speakers and conference organisers for making this a success.
